Balfolk Social Dancing

Balfolk Social Dancing

Balfolk is a dance movement that originated in different regions of France. French balfolk has its roots in the folk revival of the 1970s, in which politically progressive, urban student and traditionalist circles were also involved.

Dance in pairs, in a circle, in chains, in groups of several people or alone. Dances from other western European parts such as Italy and Sweden have also enriched the Balfolk movement. And is represented with its diverse festivals in Western Europe from Portugal to Poland.
Above all, the dance is accompanied by live music from the "Trad" and "Neofolk". The accordion and a variety of traditional instruments and playing in jams play a big part in the scene.
The dances are basically easy to join in and thus create a relaxed and pleasantly colorful atmosphere in which everyone can welcome themselves.

The workshop is aimed at beginners. The dances and music from balfolk should serve as a medium to develop a joy of movement in connection with one's own ego and that of my partners and the group.
The focus is also on the couple dances, in which outdated roles are dissolved and everyone is allowed to explore the qualities of followers and leaders. The goal is to find your own balance & verticality in dance in which connection and improvisation can develop.
The course is influenced by other dance elements from tango, forró and contact improvisation. As well as group-forming games from the theater context and free dancing.

For the course you need comfortable clothing, comfortable & clean shoes or socks and the desire to move and meet.
